The nostalgia of sovereignty : What capacity for action do democratic states have ? Introductory remarks

On March 13 and 14, 2024, the inaugural conference of the CILES Chair was held at the UPPA’s EEI College, on the Bayonne campus, which brought us together in large numbers on the theme of Nostalgia for Sovereignty, with the aim of questioning the capacity of democratic states to act.

Alongside Professor Braum and Mrs. Bachoué-Pedrouzo, I would like to thank all the participants for having done us the honour of speaking at this event which marked the inauguration of the Chair and its blog.

This scientific event marked the inauguration of the International Chair on Sovereign Europe (CILES) held by Professor Stefan Braum (University of Luxembourg) and the Centre de Documentation et de Recherches européennes (CDRE), directed by Ms Géraldine Bachoué-Pédrouzo

Bringing together the key players in this research, as well as leading figures, it took place on 13 and 14 March 2024, at UPPA‘s EEI College, on the Bayonne campus.

With a strong focus on young researchers, these meetings will be the first to be organised by the CILES Chair, in partnership with the Bayonne doctoral students’ association. A study day on 3 June 2024 will be followed by doctoral workshops on 4 and 5 June 2024.

In the presence of leading experts, these meetings will be an opportunity for participants to present their doctoral thesis, and also to work on the manifestations of European sovereignty.
